The Institute of Localisation Professionals (TILP) has the primary aim to develop professional practices in localisation globally. TILP is a non-profit organisation, owned by its members and lead by a Council elected at its Annual General Meeting.

 Council Meeting 
The TILP Council met last week Friday for a 1-day working session in Dublin to plan TILP's programme for the current year. During this meeting it was decided that the 2010 TILP action plan would concentrate on the CLP level 1 Programme and the further development of the CLP Programme.

 112 CLP level 1 graduates in 2009 in fourteen different locations

The roll-out of the second cycle of the CLP courses in eleven countries this summer and fall was a huge success. Following a period of self-study using the TILP CLP course material, 137 participants met at different locations from all over the world, from Argentina to Sri Lanka, for four days to complete their certification guided by specially appointed TILP trainers. TILP's world-wide partners made the local arrangements and offered a dedicated one-day course focusing in local requirements; this was followed by a three-day hands-on cerification course. The CLP courses were supported by Alchemy Software Development, SDL Trados and SDL Passolo.

TILP’s 2009 GM will take place on the afternoon of Tuesday, 24 November 2009 in Dublin.

  Fourth TILP Fellow to be announced 
TILP will announce its fourth TILP Fellow (FILP) at the 2009 AGM. TILP fellows are distinguished members of the Localisation Community who are proposed by the TILP Council and honoured at special events. They advise TILP on its work in areas such as the CLP. Brian Kelly is the 2006, Florian Sachse is the 2007 and Tony O'Dowd is the 2008 TILP Fellow.

While student and associate membership to TILP is open to anyone with an interest in localisation and applications for professional membership (MILP) undergo strict peer-reviews TILP Fellows (FILP) must be proposed by the TILP Council. They are highly distinguished members of the Localisation Community and advise TILP on its actions.

Council Meeting 
The TILP Council met online yesterday to review the CLP 2009 programme. In 2009 TILP will be organising fourteen CLP level One onsite modules in eleven different countries attracting 137 participants.

TILP hires a dedicated Manager to support its operations
TILP appoints Patricia Muñoz Tavira as Manager of TILP. Involved in the development of CLP level 1 as an author as well as in its implementation as a TILP trainer, Patricia joined the Council of TILP in 2008 and will leave her full time position at the Faculty of Translation Studies of Hogeschool Gent in the summer of 2009 for the function of TILP manager.

 83 CLP level 1 graduates in 2008 in eleven different locations

The roll-out of the first cycle of the CLP courses in nine countries this summer was a huge success. Following a period of self-study using the TILP CLP course material, 88 participants met at different locations from all over the world, from Argentina to Egypt, for four days to complete their certification guided by specially appointed TILP trainers. TILP's world-wide partners made the local arrangements and offered a dedicated one-day course focusing in local requirements; this was followed by a three-day hands-on cerification course. The CLP courses were supported by Alchemy Software Development, SDL Trados and SDL Passolo. Participants also took the SDL TRADOS Certification online exam. TILP is also in the process of hiring a dedicated Manager to support its operations.

Publishers’ Engineering Network Meetings - Meeting 1 The Symantec Experience
The first of TILP's Publishers’ Engineering Network Meetings "The Symantec Experience" was a resounding success. The meeting, which took place on 24 May at Symantec in Dublin, Ireland, was well attended and looked at important issues relating to the quality assurance (QA) process, outsourcing and automation.

Irish Localisation Directors Forum

The inaugural Irish Localisation Directors Forum took place on 15 May 2007 and was coordinated by TILP Fellow Brian Kelly. This forum looked at the topic of maintaining Ireland's role as a leader in the localisation industry and aimed at:

  • Assessing the current state of affairs in the Irish-based localisation industry
  • Identifying strategic key areas for the development of localisation activities in Ireland
  • Recommending actions to maintain and develop Ireland’s leadership

TILP’s 2006 AGM will take place on the evening of Thursday, 16 November 2006, in London’s Copthorne Tara Hotel. The AGM will follow the November TILP Ask the Experts Session organised in conjunction with ASLIB Translating and the Computer 28, the longest running and most prestigious conference of its kind in the world.

Council Meeting 
The TILP Council met last week for a 3-day working session in Dublin to plan TILP's programme for the coming year. During this meeting it was decided that the 2005 TILP action plan would concentrate on Ask the Experts events and the development of the CLP Programme.

TILP: Ask the Experts events 
TILP will launch a global series of one-day events, organised by members for members. The Ask the Experts events will be available to TILP Members only and will be moderated by a TILP Professional who will lead participants through a series of detailed case studies in a specific field of expertise (engineering, translation, management, marketing, etc.). Participants will be able to send specific questions and case studies to the moderator for inclusion ahead of the event. One of the first events will be moderated by Florian Sachse of Passolo. 

CLP - The Professional Development Programme
Following the launch of the Certified Localisation Professional (CLP) Programme in 2004 and the accreditation of the first TILP Accredited Course Providers, TILP is now inviting course providers globally to apply for TILP Accreditation. TILP aims to have a programme of courses in place by the end of the year, which will cover Level 1 CLP Certification for engineers, linguists and project managers.
